Changing Hair

Hi everyone! Happy Thursday. I’m so glad that tomorrow is Friday! I have my dermatology appointment that I had to cancel last Friday since I went home for the funeral. AND I’m getting my hair cut :D. Yay!

I’m trying to grow my hair out which is a slow and agonizing process. My hair takes forever to grow! I cut it short in the fall of 2010 and it’s only at my shoulders. Since my hair is kind of curly I’ve found that I need to get it trimmed at least every 10-12 weeks in order for my layers to look right.

Well, it’s been just over 12 weeks and my hair is so annoying right now! The layers have grown out all funky. When I wear it curly, the curls don’t really lay right and it looks like I have some triangle hairstyle going on. Also, it just hangs and feels heavy. Yea. It’s time for that haircut. Can’t wait!

I don’t really know why I decided to chop it off last fall. I tend to get bored with my hair a lot. I’ve highlighted it blonde and dyed it dark.

Blonde - freshman year of college

Dark - senior year of college

I’ve had it short and long (for me anyway…for some reason my hair doesn’t get very long).

I want longer hair for my wedding so that I have options when it comes to styling it. And believe me, it’ll probably take a good part of this year to get as long as it is in the above picture! Do any of you have tips about getting your hair to grow faster?? Any are greatly appreciated :).

Anyway, last night it was nice to catch up on some tv after doing hw. I seriously LOVE the show New Girl.

Source

This show is awesome! I legit lough out loud every single time I watch it. I get a kick out of all the one-liners and ridiculous story lines. Plus, each character is wacky, totally fun, and completely loveable. If you haven’t watched it yet, you really should! It’s only a half hour so it won’t take too much of your time :).

While catching up on New Girl episodes, I enjoyed a nice glass of red wine.

Yes, that bottle of wine was only $8.99…love it!! And the sole reason I purchased this particular bottle is the name of it ;). Call me crazy but I’m not generally picky when it comes to the brand of wine. As long as it tastes good – which it did – then I’m good to go!

Wow, love the randomness of this post. I didn’t really know what I was going to write and then all of this just came out. I like when that happens hehe.

I hope you all have a great day! I have class, then I’m going to a nearby senior center to participate in their pilates class (I do this for one of my classes), and then I’ll get in my workout!

Don’t forget that tomorrow is another “Fitness Loves of the Week”! Check out the FLOW page for information and the button!

  1. I couldn’t stand my hair this week, so when I came home from the gym Tuesday I just chopped off 3 inches. Clearly, I’m not very patient!

and New Girl is the BEST.

  2. I can’t wait to see what hairdo you decide on for the wedding 🙂 My hair has been bugging me lately, I’m in dire need of a cut haha!

    Have a great one friend!

  3. I get so weird about my hair – as soon as I cut it short, I want it long. As soon as I get bangs cut in, I want them grown out. I’m very fickle. 😉

  4. I love your hair blonde!! It looks so cute. I take biotin, you can get it in publix. It made my hair grow so much! It’s almost to my belly button now, but it did take a loong time to get there. My hair grows kind of fast usually but the biotin definitely helped 🙂

    • Aw thank you! I’ve tried that but I don’t think I really took it long enough to see if it made a difference…maybe I should try it again!

  5. I feel you on the hair thing, mine gets the same wayy, when I’m overdue for a cut it gets SOOO SOOO heavy. :-/ I have naturally curly/wavy hair and I swear it takes on a mind of it’s own sometimes. 😛 I’m trying to grow mine out as well and sometimes I just wanna cut it off..lol The only thing helping mine grow is prenatal vitamins, not sure you wanna get on those though, not that it could really harm anything. 🙂

  6. I always have very long hair. I freaked out 2 months ago when I decided to just get 2 inches cut off. I started taking a Hair, Skin, and Nail vitamin that I got at wal mart and it works great. I feel like my hair is back where it was before I cut it, and I’ve noticed my nails are stronger too!

  7. babe I love you 🙂 it feels as though we just had a conversation ❤ loved this post 🙂 I get so bored with my hair, too and I chopped it off SHORT SHORT (like angle bob very short) in the summer of 2009 and kept it short until the summer of 2010. Now I have been growing it out ever since 🙂 Haha. I haven't gotten bored yet, so it'll keep growing I am sure, but I just go for regular trims so there aren't dead ends 🙂 those are so gross 🙂

Oh Lindsay, you are SO pretty omg ❤

    Have a wonderful day

    • aw thank you so much love! Love u too :D. And yes, dead ends are gross! Your hair is so pretty, and I bet you look awesome with many different styles!

  8. Hi! I’m new to reading your blog (but love it!) and noticed that you’re fiance has a “Miami Redhawks” shirt on. I graduated from Miami and LOVED every second of it! I did a double take looking at the picture. Did either of you go there? Small world!

  9. I really like your hair in that last picture! It looks so cute. Isn’t waiting for your hair to grow out so aggravating? Gah it just won’t grow fast enough. Whatever you do with it though I’m sure it will look lovely 🙂

  10. You look great with both lengths of hair!

I’m in the same boat as you with the no-growth hair. It takes SO long for me to grow my hair out at all, and it eventually starts to get very thin and stringy. Boooo 😦

  11. you can pull of all styles so well! i can relate to your hair growing frustrations… i feel like i’m FINALLY noticing that mine is getting longer after trying to grow it out for nearly two years. i’ve heard different things about how often you should trim it when you’re trying to grow out your hair… i honestly just trim it once every 3 months or so or when it’s looking dull. i’ve also heard taking prenatal vitamins helps? i haven’t tried that one but it’s worth a shot!

  12. You are so lucky that you are able to pull off short hair! I totally can’t, but I wish I could! I’ve had it short before and it just doesn’t work for me. Good luck at the dermatology appt!

  13. I have thin, fine hair and not much of it. My hair for the past 5-ish years hasn’t really gotten as long as I used to have it. In August I chopped it right off to my shoulders and started from scratch. No more hair straighteners (okay I do use it on my non-wash days occasionally) and only use good products in my hair. Since August my hair has grown a ton and I only get my hair cut every 12 weeks now instead of 6-8 weeks. It makes a huge difference.

I also only now wash my hair 2-3 times a week. Are you washing yours daily? Dry shampoo + teasing brushes really come in handy. I know that one for a fact since I have TWO crowns and my hair separates like a crazy person and makes me look bald. So I’m a pro at making it look “good” in the back.

    • I do wash mine daily because it gets disgusting when I exercise..like really gross- sometimes the whole underneath of my head is wet with sweat, so I’m not sure dry shampoo would work haha.

  14. Love that show. It’s hysterical. So glad to have a good, funny show on these days not another reality show.

  15. Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life

I understand hair woes! I have very long hair, but sometimes I wish I could cut it short into a fun layered bob or cut my bangs, just make a change! However, I think when my hair is short, I will miss it long! I guess we always want whet we can’t have.. sigh! 🙂

  16. Ugh, I hate it when my layers grow out even just a little and then get all warped and funny-looking. I’m sure the hair will turn out great!

  17. I love your hair at any length! You can pull off any haircut you wanted. My hair also doesn’t get very long…. or I’m just too impatient to grow it out 🙂

I LOVE the new girl. love love love that show. I quote one liners from it all the time with my mom. No one else gets it!

  18. Can’t wait to see the new look! My hair takes quite a bit of time to grow out too….but I’ve noticed that when I stopped depriving myself, it has grown faster and shinier. WooT! Holler for whole foods 🙂

  19. My tip for longer hair: Extensions!

You can get beautiful, lush human hair extensions that cip into your real hair, look real and absoluely stunning!!

For a wedding they are a great splurge (although nowadays they aren’t that pricey) because they look THAT good!!

Just my two cents..and it comes from experience 😉

  20. I love your hair in that last picture of you and Chris! I am the same way…all is good on the hair front until randomly one day I decide that I can no longer stand it at all and I must get it cut immediately because I can’t take it another day.

I have my first derm appointment in a couple weeks…totally inspired by Alyssa at Life of bLyss and her skin cancer woes! Good luck with yours!

    • Thank you!! Yes, I planned on seeing a derm before hearing about Alyssa, but now I’m going to have them check out all of my moles!

  21. Ugh, my hair takes FOREVER to grow, too! I’ve taken prenatal vitamins because that’s supposed to help, but it didn’t do anything for me! If you come up with any good tips, please share!

  22. I love New Girl. I literally giggle through out the whole show. I love each character and they go so well together as a group! So good, and even better with wine!

  23. I am obsessed with New Girl! Zooey Deschanel is perfect! And I love your hair in every one of those pictures! So excited to see the new ‘do!

  24. i like the last pic! perfect blend. and that wine, its a good affordable wine!!

  25. I’m always changing my hair — I’ve also gone from blonde to brown.. it’s so much fun. In order to help it grow faster, I have taken biotin before which is supposed to strengthen the hair and nails. Fat Bastard is a delicious wine! love it!

  26. My prenatals always made my hair grow longer and fuller!! good luck – it’s such a pain!

  27. Love both the straight and the curly look on you!

I’ve been wanting to watch The New Girl forever. I need to sit down and have a marathon!

    • Thank you! A marathon of that show would be awesome :D. And the nice thing is since they are only 30 minutes it shouldn’t take too much of your time!

  28. Speaking of hair…how much do you LOVE Zooey Deschanel’s?

  29. I cant wait to see what you decide on!

I have never really changed my hair honestly, Im so boring! I wish I were brave!

  30. Your hair looks so cute in all of those different ways! I’ve basically had the same hairstyle for….ever. I can’t really offer any help on ways to help your hair grow faster because I have the opposite problem! I can’t keep up with my hair..it grows like crazy. Which isn’t good because fast growing hair = more hair cuts = more highlights = $$$!! I’ve heard certain foods can help your hair grow though and I’ve seen some particular vitamins for it at like Target I think..good luck!

  31. I’ve tried that wine before! haha And I too solely bought it because of the name, and it was a good price! I enjoyed it as well! I’m the same way when it comes to my wine, as long as it tastes good! I usually only buy the cheaper stuff so that’s all I really know anyways! ha

And as far as your hair, have you tried taking Biotin? My mom takes it and her hair grows like crazy!

  32. You really can rock a lot of different looks – you look gorgeous with it short, long, dark, blonde…

I don’t know how to make it grow any faster, but if you’re doing an updo, stylists have all sorts of tricks for making it look longer than it really is 🙂

  33. I, too, chopped my hair last year – we are talkin’ Michelle Williams short. I’m growing it out and my stylist told me to take Vitamin B. She said it really strengthens and fortified the roots, promoting strong hair and boosting its growth. I take a great complex from Trader Joes and my hair is growing like a weed!

I heart New Girl, too. The chemistry of the cast is great, and the witty banter has me rolling every week!

  34. My hair grows pretty quickly until it gets to a certain point, then it just gets nasty! I chopped it in November, I’m hoping the refresher will help it get past that point the next time.

  35. Your hair looks gorgeous in that last picture! I also really like it curly (I might be a bit biased though). My hair’s the same, it takes ages to grow because it springs up several inches! I’d love to change the colour but I’ve never been brave enough, I don’t know whether I’d go blonder or go auburn like I was as a child…

I’ve been wanting to watch New Girl for ages, it looks like so much fun!
