Boston Marathon

Hi everyone!!

The Boston marathon yesterday was so much fun to go to and watch! My friends, classmates, and I headed out to Wellesley, MA and were right around the half way point. We got there too late to see the really elite runners, but we still got to see people that were booking it. It was absolutely insane to see so many runners overall! And it was incredible how fast some of these people were going, and they didn’t even look like they were being challenged!

I applaud every single person that was out there yesterday. It was almost 90* and the sun was shining without clouds to offer some shade. It was also really entertaining to see so many people dressed up in costumes. For some reason, there were a lot of runners that had hamburger costumes on? Priceless. Apparently there was also a man running in a thong, but of course he went by when I was in the bathroom haha. So sorry, but I don’t have any pics of that for you.

Speaking of pics, here are some of the many I captured yesterday!

When we first got there we would only see one or two runners going by at a time.

LOVE this picture. That man has a double amputation and is running the marathon….totally awesome!

My friends Cara, Kelly, and I!

We had orange slices to pass out to the runners. And we had some tunes going.

That man in the American flag outfit had to be burning up!

One of my classmates Abbie and I!

I give these soldiers so much credit! They were walking the entire marathon in all of their gear and with heavy backpacks on.

Our fellow classmate Jen!!

Look at all of those cups! I can’t believe no one tripped on them. Although, some man that was running the marathon decided to dump the rest of his water onto my head instead of just on the ground?! Not sure why haha…but hey, it cooled me off a bit :).

Another fellow classmate Manny!!

And another classmate Sapna!! You go girl :). I’m SO proud of you for doing the marathon!!

I’m so happy that I went to watch the marathon. It was such a cool experience. Not gonna lie, it kind of made me want to run a race. And by no means does that mean that I want to run a marathon. I’m thinking a 5k might be nice :). I have no desire to run super long distances, but I think that experiencing the rush of running a race and being surrounded by cheering spectators would be awesome! We’ll see!

Anyway, I hope you all have a great Tuesday!

Questions:

Have you ever been to a marathon to watch? What did you think?

Have you ever run a marathon?? Did you enjoy it?

  1. Wow awesome!! I’m so in awe of the double amputee guy and the soldiers 🙂 Looks like yall had a blast watching the race!

  2. I love watching the Chicago marathon, it inspired me to sign up!!! I’m running it this fall as my first marathon! pray for me, haha!

  3. You gotta run a race! That adrenaline high when you cross the finish line is awesome! You could absolutely do a 5k or a 10k … but watch out, it’s amazing how quickly you can catch the bug! 😉

    • Well even if it happened I don’t know if I’d want to increase the distance haha. But I still think the shorter ones would be awesome to do!

  4. this is so cool! i can’t imagine WALKING the whole marathon in all that gear. how incredible. loved your photos and you look so pretty in pink!

  5. Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life

What a fun time! I have never ran a full marathon, but I have ran one half and an training for another half in May!

  6. I bet that was AMAZING to watch!

  7. how fun! i’ve always wanted to go watch one. i should go to the columbus one this year!

  8. Ive watched and cheering at SO SO MANY.

Will I ever be in one?

    probably not 🙂

  9. Great pics and so glad you had the opportunity to be there. I enjoy all your posts!

  10. how fun! that’s awesome you got to attend and cheer on some of your classmates! i’m amazed by the guy with the double amputation and the soldiers that were walking the whole way… that’s a LONG walk with all that gear!

  11. How fantastic girl! The double amputee man… well I am in awe, what an accomplishment and good for him of course!

  12. I’ve been to one marathon before (to watch my aunt) and it was truly inspiring! I’m not saying I want to run one though, yet at least : ) That picture of the soldiers gave me the chills!

  13. ah thanks for sharing these pics

I watched on TV but it doesn’t really get too up close and personal

  14. i’ve never been to a marathon to watch but all the boston buzz this year makes me TOTALLY want to take a day off next june and go be a spectator!

  15. Weren’t the military guys so cool?? I loved seeing them trudge by! They must have been DYING in their gear though, huh? I also love love love that shot of the double amputee – incredible! My favorite moment was seeing this guy literally holding this other guy up to get him across the final .2 miles. He was in seriously bad shape but his friend (I assume it was his friend) didn’t leave his side. I thought that was just amazing.

  16. Loved seeing all your picture and hearing the spectators point of view. I LOVED running through Wellesley yesterday. The crowds were amazing there and really helped all of us.

    • Aw yay! Congrats on running the marathon and and battling through that heat! I’m glad that the crowds were able to help you 🙂

  17. Wow! That guy with the amputated legs and those soliders are awesome. Every single person who ran should be proud of themselves!

  18. No thong pic??? Man! haha

That’s so awesome that you got to go watch! I’m not a big fan of marathon spectating, but I think Boston would be totally different. I can’t imagine the energy in the air! I would probably have been crying. I get so inspired/emotional at stuff like that!

  19. That is so cool you got to go watch! I am so jealous!

I watched my cousin run a marathon once, it was so awesome watching them all cross the finish line! It did make me want to run a marathon, then the next day I became a little more realistic that I’m by no means a long distance runner! ha

That is SO cool about the soldiers! Major props to them!

  20. That looks like a BLAST! We went and watched the NYC marathon this past fall and it was one of the more inspiring and excellent experiences of my 2011!

  21. SOOO cool that you got to go! AND yes, the feeling of accomplishment of crossing the line can not be beat 😉

  22. Just this weekend actually…my friend and I ran an aid station and fed 50, 100, and 150 ULTRA-milers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and IBUPROFEN in Pekin, IL. We had crockpot oatmeal and bacon for breakfast, meatball sandwiches for lunch and a wide array of grab-n-go gummybears, peanut MNMs, 1/2 pbj sandwiches, fig newtons, and oreos. One ultra marathoner jokingly requested fried chicken so one of our helpers drove to KFC and surprised him on his next time around. How cool is that!?

    • Wow that is awesome!! And incredible that so many people were running an ultra-marathon! I give them so much credit!

  23. those amputees that run races amaze me. Really puts life into perspective. I ran a half marathon once and loved it but the training just takes up too much time. I have no desire to ever run a full! 5 K’s and10 K’s are perfect!

  24. That is SOO COOL!! Thanks for sharing all the pics. The soldiers kinda got me b/c my hubby wears that same uniform every day! I can’t imagine doing all that with the pack on. You should totally do a 5k! It’s so much fun!!!

  25. Oh my goodness. I’m amazed by anyone who can run more than 5 miles haha. I hate running. So neat you got to watch everyone race! It must have been a great experience. I’ve never watched a marathon or competed in one clearly. Have a great day xo

  26. I watched the marathon yesterday too. I am in awe of all of the runners who got out there and braved the heat. They are all rockstars in my book.

  27. Great photos, looks like you had an awesome time. I can certainly see why it would make you want to run race! I’ve never watched a marathon, though I do know some people who have run the London marathon. Unfortunately I’ve never been there to see them.

You should definitely run a 5k! It sounds like a fun and relatively low-commitment experience to get a taste of the racing scene 🙂

  28. Love the pics! Some many different people with so many different stories

  29. I’ve never been to a marathon just to watch, but I think I might start volunteering at them now instead of running them 🙂 I am so impressed by anyone fast enough to make it to Boston – SO FAST!

  30. I totally think watching a race/marathon would inspire me to run too! I am so happy you got to go! XO

  31. i’ve run 7 half-marathons with no desire to do a full! it’s been 6 months since i’ve run (i did 2 in 3 weeks and got a bit burnt out) and now i’m ready again!

  32. Looks exciting!! I hope to do my first marathon too. Those soldiers marching with all their gear and in their uniform in the heat is inspiring!

  33. That first guy looks like a gazelle!

I ran the Nike Women’s Marathon back in 2010, but don’t think that I will EVER put myself through another one again haha. Don’t get me wrong, the experience was very fulfilling and I did do it to fundraise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, but it also convinced me that I am NOT meant to be a marathoner.

I would love to do another shorter race sometime though! Mostly for the free shirt.. 😉

  34. I’m with ya. I like the feeling of running a race, but a 5K is just fine :).
