I’ve Got Your Number Book Review

Hello friends!

I hope you’re having a great week so far. Thank you for all of your wonderful comments on my last post about letting go of healthy habits sometimes!

Before I flew home last week I decided to download a lighthearted novel on my Nook. I knew that I needed something fun to help distract myself while traveling. When I saw that Sophie Kinsella (author of the Shopaholic series and one of my favorite books “Can you Keep a Secret?”) had a new book out I instantly downloaded it :). It’s called “I’ve Got Your Number“.

Here is a synopsis from the Goodreads website:

I’ve lost it. The only thing in the world I wasn’t supposed to lose. My engagement ring. It’s been in Magnus’s family for three generations. And now, the very same day his parents are coming, I’ve lost it. The very same day. Do not hyperventilate Poppy. Stay positive!!

Poppy Wyatt has never felt luckier. She is about to marry the ideal man, Magnus Tavish, but in one afternoon her ‘happy ever after’ begins to fall apart. Not only has she lost her engagement ring but in the panic that followed, she has now lost her phone. As she paces shakily round the hotel foyer she spots an abandoned phone in a bin. Finders keepers! Now she can leave a number for the hotel to contact her when they find her ring. Perfect!

Well, perfect except the phone’s owner, businessman Sam Roxton doesn’t agree. He wants his phone back and doesn’t appreciate Poppy reading all his messages and wading into his personal life.

What ensues is a hilarious and unpredictable turn of events as Poppy and Sam increasingly upend each other’s lives through emails and text messages. As Poppy juggles wedding preparations, mysterious phone calls and hiding her left hand from Magnus and his parents… she soon realizes that she is in for the biggest surprise of her life.

I absolutely LOVED this book. Granted, I tend to adore fun and girly chick-lit type books but still, I thought the plot was very clever and the story sucked me right in. I immediately fell in love with the character Poppy and found myself really invested in what was happening with her.

While the story line isn’t entirely feasible, it’s still incredibly entertaining and funny! There were lots of times where I was giggling out loud :D. I don’t know about you but I am totally gung ho for anything that makes me laugh and feel good. I highly recommend this book for anyone that has enjoyed Sophie’s other novels and for anyone who likes books such as this!

Anyway, it felt great to workout again on Monday. I didn’t have a lot of time to spare while I was packing and getting ready to go back to Boston. I saw a circuit workout on Julie’s blog and noticed that she had linked to the original circuit she got from her friend Ben so I followed the exercises of that one.

To save some time I changed the circuit just a bit. Instead of resting for 1 minute between each move I completed all of the moves back to back, for one minute each. I went through the circuit once, rested for 2 minutes, and then did it again for a total of 22 minutes. It was awesome! I was breathing so hard and sweating a lot…and I’m actually pretty sore! I definitely recommend giving it a try.

I hope you all have a great day! I’ve got class to go to and then some hw to get done.

Question:

What’s the best book you’ve read recently?

  1. That sounds like such a fun book! Sometimes chick lit is just what you need!

I am currently re-reading the Hunger Games series like a super nerd. I just loved them!!!

  2. The best book I’ve read in the past week is “The Harbinger” by Jonathan Cahn. Not even remotely like the genre of the book “I’ve Got Your Number”, but an important book if you are trying to understand what is going on in our culture today. It has a completely accurate historical perspective, but is written as a narrative that doesn’t fail to capture the reader, at just about the same point as the secondary main character is captured by the tale, within the storyline. Worth getting through a slightly slow start.

I hope you and your family are right where you each and all need to be as you grieve the loss of your dear grandfather, Lindsay. Give my love to my nephew and keep a little for yourself.

    Uncle Chuk

  3. Love Sophie Kinsella books. Didn’t know she had a new one out. Thanks for the heads up! Just added to my GoodReads list.

  4. Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life

I read a Sophie Kinsella’s Twenties Girl last summer at the beach and it was so cute! I love light-hearted books, especially those do well-written that I literally get lost in the story line!

  5. I love book reviews! This was so fun 🙂 Thanks darling ❤ seems like we enjoy the same books 🙂 I have only been reading textbooks lately, so I can't make any recommendations for you 😉 HAHA

  6. Ahh something to add to my list. I read so quickly that I’m always on the hunt for new ones! I actually have like five books lined up right now but this will be number 6. I have always wondered about this author but sounds like it’s a good, fun read. I really like Jennifer Weiner and those Something Borrowed series so I will probably like this too!

  7. i really wish i made more time for reading! it’s honestly just never something i really think about doing. i’m going to blame it on my “type a” personality… relaxing and diving into a good book is something i am going to work on!

  8. I used to read all of Sophie Kinsella’s books – they are unbelieveable but great for beach reading!

  9. I may give that book a try! I’ve read some of her books and tend to like girly page turners. My favorite books in the last couple years have been Emily Giffin books (Something Borrowed etc.). I just finished reading What Alice Forgot, it was decent, but not as good as I’d hoped.

  10. I can’t wait to read this! I love her books, they are so fun. I’m reading Falling Together by Maria de los Santos right now and I highly recommend it. It’s WONDERFUL!

  11. I just finished this really interesting memior about face-blindness called You Don’t Look Like Anyone I Know. I am a huge fan of interesting and unique memoirs and best of all I got the hard cover copy of the book for $6!!!

I didn’t get a chance to leave this before but I am sorry for your loss and I hope you are doing okay, all things considered.

  12. That sounds like a great book! I have been looking for a good read for a while, and I’m thinking I might have to download that one on my nook as well!

The best book I have read lately is The Help. I LOVED it, and couldn’t put it down. The movie on the other hand….not so good (I thought).

  13. Toni@runninglovingliving

The best book I have read recently was She’s come undone by Wally Lamb!

  14. Are we friends on GoodReads, we have to be!! I’m in the middle of Unbroken and in love with it. I like a story that involves history though! Great work on the circuit!

  15. I didn’t even know Sophie Kinsella had a new book out! I am out of the book loop. I’ll have to check that out. Have you read Can You Keep A Secret by her? I really liked that book, definitely my fave of hers. It was so funny!

Best book as of late…hm. Probably Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang by Chelsea Handler. I was peeing myself with laughter.

I was just catching up on your blog. I’m glad you were able to let go of the health thing when you needed to. Sometimes other things trump that, ya know? If McDonalds is the only thing available, better to eat it than to stress about it.

I hope you and your fam are doing well! The funeral looked beautiful. xoxo

    • Yes I have read that book by her- totally loved it. I need to read the books by Chelsea. I don’t know why I haven’t because I know I would enjoy them! And thank you so much!

  16. That sounds like a great workout! I love finding new circuits to try out!

I am currently reading Hunger Games, so addicting! ha I love Sophie Kinsella though, I had no idea she had a new book out! I’ll have to check that out after I finish the Hunger Games!!!

  17. Thank you for the review Lindsay! I loveeee chick books too so I am quite sure I would enjoy this 🙂 I am always on the lookout for something new too, so this is officially added to the “to-read” list!

  18. Thanks for the review. I like a good chick book once in a while but there are so many that I always need a recommendation.

  19. I’ve been looking for a light and “fun” book to read lately and this seems like it’d be right up my alley. The best book I’ve read recently is the devotional book! 😀

  20. That looks like a good book, I’m always up for something girly! I read Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks a couple of weeks ago, on the ride to my grandpa’s memorial, actually. I read it for five hours straight and finished it right when we got there- it was really good, I couldn’t put it down!

  21. I love chick lit but I haven’t ever read any of Sophie’s books somehow! I love all of Jennifer Weiner’s books, especially Good in Bed. I also adored the entire Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series.

  22. I love Sophie Kinsella books, though for some reason I’ve yet to read Can You Keep a Secret even though it has been on my must read list forever. I’ll definitely keep this one in mind. The best chick-lit (or, as I prefer to call them, fun) book I read recently was The Blue Bistro by Elin Hilderbrand. It’s quite summery, but the story is lovely. In fact, I’ve had the urge to reread it recently!

  23. LOVE Goodreads. I just finished the Happiness Project and immediately recommended it to my mom and her best friend. It chronicled a woman’s quest to enhance her already pretty happy life without making any dramatic changes. Very inspiring, and surprisingly made me think about my own life and happiness.

  24. Just saw this post about the book!! So happy you liked it…I just turned my kindle on to start it!! Yay! 🙂 love your blog too!
