FLOW #2

Hi everyone! Happy Friday! 😀

Are you all ready for another Fitness Loves of the Week?? Because I am!!!

This week I have a new tabata workout for you. My roommate and I did this together and it was definitely challenging! The first 4 tabatas were killer. The last one is all abs so it wasn’t as challenging to the cardiovascular system.

**Edited to add: A tabata is doing an exercise at high intensity for 20 seconds followed by 10 seconds of rest. This is repeated 8 times for a total of 4 minutes. Complete each tabata and rest for 1 minute before starting the next tabata. This means the workout is 25 minutes!

I seriously LOVE doing tabatas. I think it’s one of my new favorite ways to exercise! It’s great that you get such an amazing workout done in a short period of time! Here are videos and explanations of the moves with names you may not be familiar with:

Box lateral shuffles

Sprint bench toe taps

Medicine ball squat to toss

Bench popovers

Line jumps

Box jumps

Skaters

Medicine ball v-ups

Jump-ups: squat down and then jump straight up as high as you can and repeat. The move is similar to what you would do at the end of a burpee. In the picture below, it would be the last two steps of the burpee-

Have you guys heard about Tina’s Bootcamp yet? It sounds like a great 8 week bootcamp challenge that she’s setting up. It’s not expensive at all, and there are lots of prizes along the way. Check it out! I’m loving that Meg is doing a new feature on Fridays as well called High Five Friday! Basically it’s to celebrate the things we are proud of about ourselves! It’s to highlight our own accomplishments and abilities :D. Just because I have my own feature going today doesn’t mean I can’t participate in hers right? Right! This week, I’m really proud that I was able to shop smartly at the grocery store!! I hope you all have an amazing Friday!

  1. Thanks for the love! And you know I just pinned that workout. I love all the workouts you share. Good stuff. 🙂

  2. I am totally adding bench popovers to my next workout…I’m getting a little bored of mountain climbers!

  3. Love tabatas (although I haven’t tried them many times), so I immediately saved this workout!! And thank you so much for the links to the ones we might not be familiar with. I usually spend a lot of time looking up videos of moves on others’ routines before I can start working out 🙂

Do you think it’s okay to substitute a dumbbell in place of a medicine ball on the ab moves? I’m thinking I wouldn’t want to use a dumbbell on the squat to toss, but maybe it would be okay on the others?

    • You’re welcome! I have always hated trying to search for them so that’s why I decided to start posting links :). And I absolutely think it’s fine to substitute a dumbbell! And no, you prob wouldn’t want to use it with the squat to toss, that could be bad haha

  4. Oh goodness girl, what a girl tabata workout 🙂 I too love tabatas. I actually just did some. 4 minutes to kick start my day? WHY NOT right!? So for yours, your do each “circuit” twice?

Thanks for participating in high five friday 😀 LOVE U

  5. Aww dang I forgot to join in again!! Next week I’m gonna link up for sure haha 😉

Next workout I’m totally trying bench popovers, they look awesome!

  6. love tabata’s and just pinned this 🙂

  7. I wish you were MY roommate!!! 🙂

  8. Great workout…I might have to pin it :).

  9. I wish I had more gumption to do anything aside from my normal elliptical and machine-weight workouts. I loved when I splurged and hired a trainer for a few sessions, but I just can’t make myself do anything “out of the ordinary” when I’m on my own.

Maybe I just need a gym buddy? 🙂

  10. I love this, definitely adding it to my post later today! Thanks lady!

  11. I did a workout very similar to this this morning! I’ll post mine version of it later and maybe you can give it a try! http://www.katieept.com

  12. I’ll be honest! I have never tried tabatas! Maybe I should!

  13. I just submitted mine but totally did it in a weird way…the attachment will work but I have no idea what thumbnail pic it decided to use…sorry I’m a noob but I love this link-up series : )

I have never tried a tabata work out before, but it looks like a serious challenge! Do you do each tabata straight through, and then rest between the groups?

    • Yes, sorry I forgot to post that! I edited it to say it haha. I do each tabata straight through and then rest for 1 minute between each.

  15. I’ve dabbled in tabata workouts before, but never done them consistently. However, I think they would be perfect to shake up the workout rut I’ve found myself in recently. Definitely putting incorporating this one into my routine this week! 🙂

  16. I seriously LOVE Tabata workouts!!! I did my first one two days ago, and now I’m hooked! They go by quick but are still challenging! Happy Friday 🙂

  17. great tabata workout girl! happy friday! 🙂

  18. Whew – I’m tired just looking at that workout. haha Happy Friday!

  19. I am definitely going to give this workout a try! It looks awesomeeeee.

  20. just call me tabata queen! jk. But i do adore them. love/hate actually!

  21. Great workout! and thanks for sharing other great sites with fitness challenges! Iwill hvae to check them out. 🙂

  22. Good stuff! I need to incorporate more tabatas into my routines–thanks for the workout and reminder 🙂

  23. WOOO HOOO!!! I can’t wait to try this workout!! I’ve been loving my “short bursts” workout 🙂 I hate cardio, so this grand!!

    xxoo

  24. This workout looks kick butt… Love it!!!! I need to work on shopping wisely this weekend too.

  25. Love this again Lindsay! I shall be adding my workout later tonight 🙂

  26. This looks so tough! I definitely have a love/hate relationship with tabatas. 😛

  27. I love this sexy new link-up you have going on! I love doing tabata’s and I’m not sure why I don’t do them more often. Probably because it is hard to slack off while doing them, haha. But I really like that you do them and they are done and over with quickly!

    Have a great weekend Linds!

  28. Ooh, I love this tabata workout! Pinning! 🙂
