Bench Dips

Hi everyone!

Chris arrives tomorrow :). Today needs to go by fast haha.

Here’s a quick update on the cleanse I’ve been doing. Today is day 8 of 10 and while I feel really good I honestly don’t feel a whole lot different than normal. I guess this is a good thing because it means that I must be eating pretty well to begin with! I’m also missing my normal food but I think part of that is because I haven’t been very creative with my meals.

After the first couple of days (forgive me for sharing tmi here!) I started going to the bathroom well. For me this is great because I sometimes have challenges with that. I think the takeaway from this is to try and incorporate a bit more fruits and veggies into the way that I already eat!

While on this cleanse I found a new salad dressing that I’m really enjoying! It’s Annie’s Organic Oil and Vinegar dressing! This stuff tastes delicious on my salads and I’m sure it would be good on other things as well.

I’m also proud of myself because I’ve finally made a smoothie with spinach that I enjoyed :). The first time I tried to add spinach to a smoothie I absolutely hated it! I could totally taste the spinach and the whole thing had a weird aftertaste. What I’ve realized is that I probably put too much spinach in it and not enough stuff to cut the flavor. I didn’t take a picture of my successful smoothie attempt (I know, I’m a slacker) but I’ll tell you what was in it:

  • 1 1/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 banana
  • Small handful of spinach
  • 1 Tbsp PB2
  • Frozen strawberries
  • Frozen blueberries
  • A couple shakes of ground cinnamon
  • A splash of vanilla extract

I am excited to keep trying new smoothies with spinach! Now that I’ve sort of figured it out I really like knowing that I have another way to add some greens to my diet.

My upper body has been getting a lot of attention during my workouts this past week since it’s the only part I can lift and really work hard. I did some challenging tricep dips on the bench the other day and they totally left me sore! What I did was place my feet on a bench as well so that my whole body was suspended. It definitely upped the ante of the exercise and oh baby I was feelin’ the burn ;).

On the schedule for today: class, parking office to renew parking pass, cleaning the apartment, studying for my exam that’s tomorrow, and working out!

I hope you all have a great Monday!

Question:

What’s a new product you are loving lately?

  1. I’ve never tried bench dips before—but I love a good bodyweight resistance move so I’ll have to try it out!

Here’s to hoping today goes quickly for you πŸ™‚

  2. I love doing bench dips like that!

  3. That’s MY fave way too!!

Then I get the chid to sit on my legs and I do till collapse, err, fatigue πŸ˜‰

  4. Love bench dips, especially with a plate on my legs, that’s a burn inducer fo sho! Your smoothie combo sounds delicious too! Don’t you just love hiding veggies in stuff? πŸ˜€

    Have a rockin Monday love!

  5. Yay! I lovee spinach smoothies, and I’m glad that you found a recipe you like! To be honest, I think that the secret is adding the banana. It makes suuuuuch a difference

Have a great time with Chris πŸ™‚ I’m sure you’re VERY excited!

  6. love that you add cinnamon! i’ve found that peaches are REALLY good at hiding the spinach flavor if you get tired of banana

  7. Ooo! I am going to have to try that dressing….I usually just use olive oil and lemon or olive oil and vinegar. I hope your day goes by super quick! πŸ™‚

  8. I’m convinced that the secret to a good spinach smoothie is a frozen overripe banana!

  9. Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life

My favorite smoothie with spinach is just almond milk, frozen banana, peanut butter, and a huge handful of spinach! You really can’t taste it all! πŸ™‚ Have a great time with Chris girl, I am sure you are super excited! πŸ™‚

  10. Those chuck taylors are too cute! Love them!

  11. i’m glad your mind changed about spinach smoothies! πŸ˜‰ i know for me the secret is a ripe banana… it disguises the flavor of the spinach for sure.

as for a new favorite product? i found cashew, almond, & peanut butter at target the other day that i am absolutely loving!! i’ve been wanting to get it for awhile now, and i’m so glad i finally picked it up.

    • Yes, the ripe banana is a huge plus! And wow, that nut butter sounds amazing! I hope you review it on your blog hehe. Hope you have a great day love!

  12. Oh that’s a good idea to put your feet up. I’ve been doing a lot of dips and they’re getting too easy so I’ll try that! Annie’s dressing are so fabulous. I’m glad you found a spinach smoothie concoction you enjoy because they are the best!

  13. I’ve done tricep dips on the bench before, but never with my feet on another bench! Very interesting idea! πŸ™‚

Have a great day! Hooray for Chris being there in just 1 day!!

  14. I may need to get in on that cleanse! I’m eating even more veggies than I usually do, but I’m still not, ahem, going . . . So frustrating!

Anyway, I’m loving my PB2 and these blueberry Quakes that I found in the chip aisle. They’re like mini rice-cakes, but not as styrofoamy and suuuuper delish!

  15. If i use spinach in a smoothie, it must have banana in it! As long as there is banana, I can’t taste the spinach. peanut butter also works to cover up the taste. If I don’t have bananas on hand, the spinach is usually left out. I have used mixed greens as well and kale, but kale is even harder to cover up. Its a great way to get greens in though!

I have been loving steel cut oats. I like that they are chewier and have more consistancy than normal ones. And since I make them the day before, they are so fast the morning of! win win!

  16. I usually make my own salad dressings, but annie’s is great for when I’m being lazy lol!

  17. I LOVE bench dips!! Feel the burn…oh YES πŸ™‚

    Have a good day–and a new product I love?! Hmmmmm…..my new sparkly shoes πŸ˜‰

  18. That looks like a killer workout! I usually do chair dips when my feet on the ground, but this looks like it would add a lot more intensity! I’ll have to try that one! Good luck with your test tomorrow! πŸ™‚

  19. The Annie’s dressing sounds good – I’ve been looking for some all-natural, ‘better-for-you-but-not-packed-with-fake-stuff’ dressings to pass along to my family members who rely on the packaged kind, so maybe I’ll check that brand out.

Right now, I’m loving my Saucony running sneakers. They really cushion my feet well during the impact. Makes running less painful–literally. πŸ™‚

    • Yea her brand has lots of great looking organic and all-natural dressings!! Those sneakers sound perfect…glad you’re loving them πŸ™‚

  20. I hope today went by quickly for you lovely!!!!!! Tomorrow will be such a happy day for you πŸ˜€

Oh my goodness I love bench dips hun! Probably my fav! I will be doing them tomorrow πŸ™‚

    • It did, sorta haha…lots of studying for my exam tomorrow morning! But as soon as I pick up Chris it will be much better :). Hope you’re having a good one pretty lady!

  21. I do bench dips during most of my workouts, so it’s time to step it up and try it this way! Thanks for the idea πŸ™‚ Or maybe booooo πŸ˜‰ I hope that today went by quick for you and that the rest of the week continues to get better and better

  22. So glad you’ve come over to the ‘dark’ side with your green smoothies! Sounds exactly like the ones I make, but I add chocolate whey powder too!

I love bench dips, although if I go too low, I can feel a strange pulling around the elbow; probably knitting-induced tendonitis!

    Have a great week!

    • Oooo that’s good to consider…I guess maybe I’ve never gotten that low haha. Hope you have a great week πŸ™‚

  23. I’ve been wanting to try a green smoothie so badly but I’m nervous! This post inspired me though so I think I will try one this week πŸ™‚ Have an awesome week with Chris!!!

    • Start off with a small amount of spinach the first time! I think that was one of my big mistakes haha. Thank you!

  24. Yay, I’m glad you found a green smoothie you like. πŸ™‚ I love ’em! As for products, I’m currently loving sriracha and TJ’s dijon mustard. Both pack a punch!

  25. Carrie @MyHealthyAddictions

For an added challenge try putting a plate on your lap while doing the dips- killer!

A new to me purchase was Nutritioan Yeast- I cant decide if I like it or not…

  26. I’m lovin gmy New Balance/Vibram shows I got last month (the New Balance WT20’s). Last night I was just thinking about how they have helped improve my form!

  27. I LOVE Annie’s dressing! πŸ™‚

  28. Hope you have a great weekend with Chris!! πŸ™‚

  29. I’ve been nervous to try the spinach-in-my-smoothie thing, maybe I’ll give that a shot tomorrow with just a very little bit! I love bench dips, I haven’t tried them with my feet up on a bench though, looks intense πŸ™‚
